This being a commonly used tool among proponents who have many small sized projects that include renovations and repairs, the owner does make an announcement of interest in potential contractors. This is done through giving a brief description of what the plan entails, the expectations to be met including desired date and time for the whole plan to be completed. Thereafter, a request for proposal is done by the owner so as to get a detailed price proposal, design and scope of work.

This tool also allows the owner, designer and the contractor to work closely to come up with the most economical method needed to perform the work. This is usually done in meetings and site visits for familiarization with the site. The request for proposal will then be forwarded to the owner for consideration and approval and if everything is agreed the owner will sign it off and the project will go on as scheduled.

In order for the proponent to experience the best work relation with the selected contractor, he or she has to carry out a background check. Since most individuals who have numerous developments being done concurrently and would prefer time to be used sparingly, checking on the previous work of the contractors will help the owner note whether they are true to their service delivery.

It is also important for the owner to get proof that the company chosen indeed does exist. Proponents can receive a number of RFPs from companies that may not even exist. To prevent such fraudulent acts, the individual should be precise in checking for the credibility of the company it has chosen to work with before approving the RFP.
