It Is Effortless To Learn How To Scan Your Documents To A Computer

By Dawn Williams

One of the better uses for computers is saving images of valuable documents or pictures to view at a later time. Many scanners are relatively simple to use and with most newer software makes them into plug and play units. This means that with some practice anybody can learn how to scan their pictures or documents on a computer without any real issues.

Most printer/scanner combos and flatbed scanners are very similar to copy machines in how they work and what they do. They all have glass plates with a high intensity light under it that moves under the glass to do the scanning. With scanners though you can scan books, maps, magazines and low depth 3 dimensional objects.

They can also be used for scanning objects in color or high resolution black and white. Unlike copiers that only print to paper these images can be stored on a pen drive, disk drive or a hard drive for future use. They can also be manipulated in different ways like cropping, resizing, and adding or subtracting colors. They can also be included in different formats to be sent over the web in emails and online file sharing.

There are some stand alone scanners, though most are intended to be tied to a computer system and are unable to operate themselves. This is where most printer software comes into action. The software is what breaks images into files and allows people to manipulate them. It is also what allows files to be saved to different file formats to print or save to a disk.

To use many scanners is a reasonably straight forward operation that is generally the same with most devices. When you have decided what will be scanned, check that the scanner is on and the plugs are connected to your computer correctly. Begin your imaging program on the computer and give some time to load up and connect to the scanner that will be used.

On the imaging software you will find a sub-menu for source, choose the scanner you will be using. You can now put items to be copied on the bed of the scanner and close the lid. Using the imaging software, select scan and wait for the scanner to work. Depending on the resolution of the image this can take a few seconds or several minutes to load into the computer's memory.

After the image is scanned there should be a preview image somewhere on the computer screen. From this point there are many different options available to do. The image can be cropped or cleaned up. The colors can be changed or the image can be put in black and white. The file can be saved to a disk or hard drive, or it can be printed.

It is that simple. Anybody can learn how to scan documents into a computer. Scanners are a wonderful tool for any office or home to use. The more you end up using them the more items you will find you can use them for.
